Formerly Flat Creek Trail, the Dead Mountain Trail begins by climbing up to a small dry meadow and then traversing above Flat Creek before crossing Forest Road 2404. The trail then follows Flat Creek for about 0.2 mile before crossing the creek and heading up to another traverse above Flat Creek for about 0.2 more miles.  Chanterelle mushrooms and Oregon grape can be found along the trail. The forest consists of Douglas-fir and western hemlock. The trail route winds up the slope and finally reaches the top of the ridge where it crosses Forest Road 210.
