Traxxas is a well-recognized brand in the RC cars arena, and with good reason. They produce quality, efficient, durable, and affordable RC cars. Well, not all of them are on the cheap side, but all of them will serve you right, depending on your needs. Today, I will review the Traxxas Slash Race Truck. Why? First, I love using the most popular RC vehicles and reviewing them. Also, this is not only one of the most efficient and reliable RC trucks on the market, but it has so many features that make it stand out, hence a favorite among many.
Seen as a beginner-friendly RC car, the Traxxas Slash Race Truck is a 1/10 scale vehicle with a great ground clearance of approximately 2.8 inches. Moreover, the back and front tracks are 11.6 inches wide. On top of that, it weighs 6 pounds.
But what more should you know about this amazingly versatile RC truck?

Key Features
Motor
The Traxxas Slash is equipped with the Titan 12-Spin 550 Improved Motor.
Even though this is not the most potent motor on the market, it provides more than enough power to hit high speeds of up to 30 Mph. Also, for a beginner-friendly RC vehicle, this one will traverse through snow, mud, and other rough terrain quite effortlessly.
That said, I recommend using it on other less challenging surfaces like grass, pavement, and slightly rough terrain with small rocks and pebbles.
Waterproof Electronic Components
While not the entire RC vehicle is waterproof, the manufacturer was kind enough to consider user safety and seal the electronic components.
For instance, the batteries are covered using a waterproof material to keep moisture and water out. Every connection is sealed with a plastic connector for maximum safety and longevity. So, when switching the batteries, all you need to do is slide the cover over the connection.
With that in mind, I would advise against submerging it in water consistently.
After using it for a few months on different terrains including water, snow, and dirt, it’s a suitable option for beginners. However, I noticed a marginal condensation accumulation on the battery pack’s inside. However, after drying them, they disappeared.
Since then, there have been no such issues with the Traxxas Slash Race Truck. From the receiver to the batteries, this beast is adequately waterproof.
Controller
The Traxxas Slash Race Truck has a 2.4 GHz controller. It sits comfortably on your hand and operates with incredible precision, considering it is a hobby-grade option.
There are no complications or complexities while syncing this controller. Just turn on the car, switch on the controller, then pull its trigger. Every controller is linked to an independent unit, allowing you to operate it effectively.
Having done that, the Traxxas Truck will follow your every command.
Batteries
The Traxxas Slash Race truck is equipped with completely rechargeable 7-cell NiMH batteries. The package also includes the 12V 4-amp swift charger, perfect for connecting to almost any power outlet. Here is what you should know about the batteries:
- Charging time in my vehicle: 1-2 hours
- Charging time at home: 45 – 60 minutes
- Drive time with full charge: 20 to 30 minutes
I opted to purchase another battery pack, considering the run time. This allowed me to switch batteries whenever I am driving for a long time, giving me up to 2 to 4 hours of runtime.
Versatility & Durability
Taking into consideration all the features I’ve talked about, then it is evident that the Traxxas Slash Race Truck is fun to drive!
It also offers numerous interchangeable and upgradeable components and accessories. I chose a Gunk chassis as it looked magnificent, though you can go for a more affordable option, and it’ll still look great.
Moreover, once you have improved your skills, you can begin searching for a more powerful motor, battery, or both. There is a wide variety of compatible and potent options, which renders making repairs and upgrades effortless.
When it comes to durability, this incredibly amazing truck is made using top-quality and durable plastic that can take a beating. After plenty of rolling, bashing, and crashing, this truck is still standing.
As for scuff marks, there are several, yet it looks better than before. These marks add a personal touch and a bit of character to my Traxxas Slash Race Truck. This is indeed one of the most durable options on the market.
What’s more, after every crash, this truck went ahead to race like nothing had happened.
Range
Range is an important part of your RC car, so it is vital to consider it when purchasing an RC vehicle.
When it comes to the Traxxas Slash Race truck, under full charge, I was able to get a range of up to 500 inches before I got a frequency lag and, eventually, no response. At approximately 550 to 600 inches, this RC truck wasn’t responsive.
550 inches worth of range from an RC truck is nothing but impressive. Consider the range you can get from a toy-grade RC car, probably 50 to 100 inches at best. This range gives the Traxxas race truck more points, allowing it to compete with some of the more expensive top-of-the-line models.
Related Questions
Can I Spray Paint my Traxxas Slash Rash Truck Body?
Definitely! It is okay to spray paint your Traxxas RC vehicle. However, do not forget to get rid of the overspill before placing the decals. Also, make sure you spray paint the body’s interior.
The moment you are done painting the interior, peel out the film and finally paint the decal.
Is the Traxxas Slash Race Truck Waterproof?
Well, not entirely. However, the electronic components are waterproof, and this should be enough protection for everyday use on various moist terrains. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t recommend using it in excessively wet surroundings like in the snow or other wet terrain.
Similarly, remember to always keep the transmitter dry to prevent any water-related damage.
Traxxas Slash Race Truck Bottomline
In the long run, the Traxxas Slash Race truck proved to be a worthy investment, precisely for beginners and intermediate-skilled drivers. I recommend this RC truck, and I found it to deliver excellent value for the money.
This RC car ranges from $200 to $300, which is quite expensive. But keep in mind that it is compatible with a broad scope of upgrade parts, so once you improve your skills, you can upgrade the wheels, tires, motor, and even batteries instead of buying another.
Overall, the Traxxas Slash Race truck is a durable, powerful, efficient, and versatile RC truck that promises a lot of fun!
